Pimpala Primary School
Term Two Learning
27 Apr 2020
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
At Pimpala Primary School, our classrooms are ready for learning and the return of students tomorrow. Advice from SA Health and Australia’s expert health body, AHPPC, remains unchanged. Schools, preschools and early childhood facilities are low risk environments for students and staff, and remain open.
While learning at school with professional educators is the very best option for student education outcomes, we will continue to provide high quality remote learning through Seesaw and learning packs which are available for collection from tomorrow, Tuesday 28 April.
We respect the preferences of parents and carers and if you choose for your child(ren) to learn from home, remote learning options are in place for those students. Please be aware that due to the Government’s recent notice of these changes, there will be an initial period of adjustment as we switch from remote to face-to-face for many students. From our community, the indication is that student numbers returning to school tomorrow will be approximately 80% with the majority of students learning on site. This means that students learning from home, will not be guaranteed their class teacher. This is due to duty of care requirements for student and staff ratios on site, and requirements for staff to access their release planning time. Students may be grouped according to year levels and will be checked in with, by staff, while they access their learning on the online platforms mentioned. The method of this check in will be different for households and will be confirmed with individual families before commencing this week.
Schools will maintain increased cleaning schedules, encourage good hygiene practices, and make small but necessary changes to classrooms and timetables to minimise large gatherings of children and students. Individual sites will only be temporarily closed if there is a confirmed case of COVID-19. We will then follow our protocol in line with SA Health.
The AHPPC updated its advice about physical (social) distancing in schools, preschools and early childhood services on 24 April 2020 and does not believe that the following is appropriate or practical in classrooms or corridors:
maintaining 1.5m between students
the ‘venue density rule’ of no more than 1 person per 4 square metres.
While this advice is applicable to students, it is not yet applicable to adults so we still request that parents and guardians drop children at school and do not gather in groups in the school ground at any time. We also request that anyone visiting Administration in the school office follows the directions on the door and limits the numbers at any time to one person.
As always, we will keep you updated as we are informed and truly appreciate your support and understanding with the current situation. Please contact us via phone or email if you have any questions.
