We have had a very exciting few weeks at Pimpala.
Friday of Week 6 we celebrated Science Week with a full day of Science experiments. The students had so much fun and they all participated with enthusiasm. I would like to thank the staff for supporting the day and a big thank you to Mr Smith for planning and organising the whole event. As always it was a huge success!
Last week we celebrated Book Week, it was a fantastic week with so many sensational activities. On Friday we had our Book Week Assembly where students and staff had the opportunity to dress up as their favourite book character. The costumes and the effort that was put into them was phenomenal. Thank you to all of the families for support students to dress up - I know how much time and effort goes into creating the marvellous costumes. I would also like to acknowledge the tremendous effort that Karen put into organising all of the book week events and the staff that supported her to do this.
We have students participating in SAPSASA Soccer and Netball in the next two weeks, if we are successful then we will move to the next round of the finals! Fingers crossed we are lucky enough to win the Grand Final!
We had Transition Leaders from Wirreanda Secondary School who organised sessions for our Graduating Students. These Turbocharged sessions were to design thinking and construct a legacy project. The students found these sessions very entertaining and interesting. We appreciate the staff from Wirreanda Secondary School organising these sessions for our students.
I was pleased to acknowledge the service and the retirement of Hazel Dobson, who began teaching at Pimpala in 2012. Hazel brought years of experience to our Junior Primary Team and was willing to share her ideas with the school. Hazel always brought a smile to the faces of students, families and staff.
I would like to remind families that they are welcome to attend our Governing Council Meeting on Wednesday, 8 September at 7 pm in the Library. You do not need to be a Governing Council Member to attend.
Kind Regards
Belinda Finlay-Smith Judy Beal Christine MacLean
Principal Deputy Principal Student Wellbeing Leader
Planning is continuing for 2022 and beyond. We are looking at class configurations and need accurate numbers for each year level to plan the best possible scenarios. Consequently, we would like to know if you are planning to enrol other family members or know of friends who may be interested in enrolling, or if you are thinking of leaving the school.
We will seek your feedback early in Term 4 regarding your child’s placement. If there are any issues you would like considered, please email the leadership team so that this information can be referred to when class placements are made later in the year. If there are any matters requiring more urgent attention, please speak to the teacher in the first instance.
We also want to make sure we have all siblings listed. If you have had a child recently, or if you are not sure whether you have lodged an enrolment form or registration of interest for any siblings, please check with the Administration Office. We don’t want to miss anyone!
We have lots of great things planned for our 2022 Reception students as part of the transition process, so if you are considering enrolling, please make contact with the school as soon as possible to ensure you are included.
Don't forget there will be a School Closure Day this Friday, 10 September, 2021. The School Closure Day scheduled to celebrate the Royal Adelaide Show will still go ahead as planned even though the Royal Adelaide Show has been cancelled again this year.
As this has been a long time in the planning and many of our families have made plans for this day, the school closure will still go ahead.
OSHC will NOT be available as all of the staff will use this opportunity to undertake Professional Learning.

We have some fabulous news. The Noarlunga Aquatic and Recreation Centre has been able to fit our Years 3 & 4 students in with our R-2 students for swimming in the same week next term in Week 7, 22 to 26 November.
We have only just received this information we will send more details when they are available.
Our Year 5 students will undertake a Beach Safety program on Thursday, 11 November in lieu of the swimming lessons at the Noarlunga Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
This will be a one day program where a number of sessions are held on the one day similar to the one day Aquatics Program the Year 6 & 7 students undertake each year.
More information will be sent home as soon as it is available.
What a fabulous time was had by our wonderful Jumpstart At Pimpala playgroup children and parents during the last fortnight. On the first session the children listened to a story, did our Jumpstart dance and then everyone made a monster for the Book Week Art Gallery which was displayed with all of the other classes.
On Friday everyone dressed up for the Book Week Dress Up Day. It was great to see so many of the children in costume. We listened to a story, did our Jumpstart dance, and then we got to go to the hall and look at our masterpieces as well as those on display from the other classes. Following the Book Week theme we also got to participate in a Treasure Hunt for Book Week looking for dinosaurs, robots and aliens following the theme Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds. Jumpstart just gets better and better each week.
Please remember there is NO Jumpstart At Pimpala next week, 10 September due to the School Closure Day. The next session will be on Friday 17 September.
What a way to celebrate Book Week! There has been heaps of activities in the Library and around the school grounds culminating in a dress up day with simply sensational costumes and lots of special guests like Cruella DeVille and some of the 101 Dalmations, Jack Sparrow from The Pirates of the Carribean, Queen Amidala from Star Wars, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, Pippy Longstocking, Where's Wally, Dorothy from the Wizard of OZ, Mr Potato Head, Thing 1and Thing 2 Arlo from Arlo Needs Glasses, Billie B. and lots of crayons from The Day the Crayons Quit and that was just the staff. The students were also dressed to impress with lots of Harry Potter characters, Superheroes, Princesses, Where's Wally, Transformers, cowboys, and Cats in Hats. It was an exciting week to be at school!
The library was very busy. During the week over 70 new books were put on display for the students to reserve ready to borrow next week.
All classes including the Jumpstart at Pimpala playgroup prepared art work based on a shortlisted Book Week book they had read, for our Art Gallery. Art work has been on display before and after school for parents/caregivers to view all last week. There are some really clever artists in our community, who under great direction from their teachers, have created some outstanding pieces of art, which the students will get to bring home. Great work everyone!
Karen also arranged lunch time activities in the Library most days of the week including making rocking birds, fish spinners, dragon masks and peg puppets.
On Wednesday at lunch time Karen planned a Treasure Hunt based on the Book Week theme of Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds. Over 180 students participated in this activity which involved walking around the school looking for evidence Old Worlds - pictures of dinosaurs, New Worlds - pictures of robots, Other Worlds - pictures of aliens. Students then had to tally up how many of each type they could find. Every participant won a prize. The student who guessed the right number of dinosaurs, robots and aliens - 11:11:11 was Sophie P. Congratulations Sophie on winning a $20 Scholastic Voucher. Evelyn M and Ruby L only got one number wrong and were given a pick from the Library prize box each.
Can you judge a winning book by it's cover competition was run during the week. Students were asked to guess which book would win in each of the 5 Book Categories based on their covers. The 2 winners, Scott S and William F got 3 of the 5 categories right and won a $20 Scholastic Book Voucher each. Interestingly 55% of entries got zero right, so it just goes to show your really can't judge a book by it's cover.
Another competiton which ran during the week was What Book is That? a puzzle game where students put the clues together to identify the title of a book in the library. There were 120 entries received and 11 students got them all right. Names were put in a hat and 2 people won $20 Scholastic Book Vouchers - Ace C and Isabella E. The other 9 students who got them all correct were Kye C, Lila S, Tahlia P, Jasmine P, Alyssah M, Bella T-C, Jessie D, Sophie P, Isaac E who got to pick a prize out of the prize box in the Library.
Pick the staff's favourite book competition will run until next assembly. Both students and staff can enter this competition.
Special thanks to Karen in the Libary - also known as Queen Amidala (from Star Wars fame) who has gone above and beyond to make Book Week such a huge success. Karen not only put the Art Gallery display together which took hours of her own time, but came up with and ran all the Book Week activities. All credit to you Karen - she is an amazing SSO!
On Friday, 27 August students enjoyed Science Day with all classes participating in a number of experiments during the course of the day. These included Lava Lamps, bubbly-mixture, hoop gliders, catapults, vortex cannons, electrical circuits and the watermelon squeeze. Please see below some photos of the day. If you look closely you might see Mr Smith in some of them in very enthusiastic poses.
